Back Pain FAQs

Minor back pain generally isn’t a cause for alarm. However, if you have consistent back pain that impacts your sleep or mobility, it’s time to seek treatment. At Lancaster Chiropractic Life Center in Lancaster, PA, our chiropractor provides natural treatment methods for back pain and other ailments. Here are some commonly asked questions about back pain.

.

What causes back pain?

Acute back pain can be caused by traumatic injury to your neck or spine due to an auto accident, workplace accident, slip and fall, or sports injury. Whiplash, torn ligaments, herniated discs, muscle tears, dislodged joints, and sprains and strains are examples of such injuries.

Chronic back pain may be caused by muscle overuse, repetitive motions that put a strain on muscle groups in your spine, or age-related degenerative conditions that impact your spinal alignment. Low back pain that extends down your hip and leg could be due to sciatica, a condition where structures are pinching the sciatic nerve. Long term poor posture, obesity, and pregnancy are also common causes of back pain due to the strain these conditions put on your spine.

What symptoms occur with back pain?

In addition to acute or chronic back pain, you may experience neck or back stiffness, inflammation of muscles or joints, loss of flexibility, and restricted mobility. If you’re suffering from these or other debilitating back pain symptoms, contact our Lancaster chiropractor for upper or low back pain relief.

How is back pain diagnosed?

Our Lancaster chiropractor will perform a thorough physical exam to determine the cause and severity of your condition. We’ll conduct range of motion and mobility tests to gauge how the pain is impacting your movements. When needed, we’ll order X-rays, MRIs, or CT scans to confirm our diagnosis. These tests will help determine the course of action we’ll take for chiropractic back pain treatment.

How does chiropractic care provide back pain relief?

If your pain is caused by misaligned structures in your spine, we’ll use chiropractic adjustments to restore balance to your skeletal system. This reduces pressure off of spinal nerves to reduce pain and discomfort. It also normalizes joint movement to restore flexibility, range of motion, and mobility. The techniques we use include the diversified technique, drop table, activator technique, Webster technique, and more.
