Ear Infections & Chiropractic

The 8-year-old female in this study had been experiencing ear pain, sinus issues, and upper back pain. She was previously diagnosed with otitis media and her ear infections were often associated with colds. She also experienced low energy.

The chiropractor examined her and found ear infection, tight muscles, and structural shifts in her upper neck, mid back, and lower back. Decreased range of motion confirmed the findings. These structural shifts can lead to obstruction of the nerves and it is this obstruction, called vertebral subluxations, that chiropractors correct.

Following chiropractic adjustments, she experienced improvements in her symptoms and her ear infections resolved by the third day.

The study’s author called for additional research to investigate the clinical implications of chiropractic in this population.

Tips for Optimal Spine Health

  1. Exercise Regularly - At least 30 minutes of physical activity daily.
  2. Work on Core Strength - Includes abdominal muscles, the lower and middle back muscles.
  3. Pay Attention to Your Posture - Sit up straight. Get up and stretch at least once an hour.
  4. Sleep Support - Back sleepers should place a pillow under their knees. Side sleepers should place one between their knees.
  5. Wear Good Shoes
  6. Stand Properly - Keep your head level so that your shoulders and ears align. Engage your abs to support your spine even more.
  7. Reach and Bend with Care - Always bend with your knees. Never twist while picking up a heavy object.
  8. Be Present When Using Technology - Don’t slouch. Bring your cell phone to eye level. Place your feet on the ground.
  9. Don’t Ignore Warning Signs - Listen to your body, stop if there is pain.
